central italy: abruzzo to tuscany

  • Cremona 109 N Hambden St Chardon United States (map)

Tuscany is one of the most famous and prolific wine regions in Europe. It is best known for its Sangiovese-based dry red wines which include Chianti, Brunello, and Montepulciano.

The region is famous for its inland, rolling hills, where increased temperature variation helps to maintain the grapes' balance of sugars, acidity and aromatics. Planted on slopes to maximize sun exposure, Sangiovese grapes thrive in the heat of hot summers. Rainfall is sporadic and mild winters protect vineyards.

Tuscan cuisine is distinct–regional recipes focus on hyperlocal, farm-fresh produce, and simple, pure ingredients. Tomatoes, olives, and grapes are among the best in the world. These coupled with pasta, beans, cured meats, and fish from the coast make delicious, traditional, Tuscan dishes.
